The features are decent to good for the most part. Not a ton to say, Soul just does Soul here ( do note that this is based on two listens) Closure is definitely an attempt at Book of Soul 2.0 and it comes through pretty well, not exactly as great but it is a very high bar. I think Soul himself was at his weakest on the opener, God's Reign outside of Purity Ring and SZA i wasn't feeling this track much. Another comment was made that there were some cringeworthy lines but idk i always just took his lines like those (ex. Ab-Soul is probably king of the game at frequently calling back to his own lines, not saying that that's a good thing (nor is it a completely bad thing either). I'm certainly feeling the whole album just on the strength of the beats aloneĪs far as spitting i think Soul was stronger as a whole on Control System, but a good amount of standout moments here. Also, another small dislike was the recurring 'REAL NIGGA SHIT' on Nevermind That, which I thought was a little much to say the least. The only beat i did not like was World Runners, which is not coincidentally my least favorite track. Cole's in the slightest but it's a shame that Soul didn't do more with the beat on Sapiosexual. Even the party track (Twact) beat seems built thematically on top of like a horror movie theme, and i'm not a fan of J. Dreamy, airy, out there, and lightweight experimental all around. Imo Soul has never spit over a bad beat, and he has one of the best ears for beats around, but he (or the producers, rather) really outdid himself/themselves on this one. the eerie synth line on Dub Sac, the ascending and descending keys on Twact, the strings in the background during the hook on Feelin Us). Each of them has just these little tiny characteristics thrown in on top of very solid production (ex. First of all, good lord almost every beat on this album is incredible.
